03/25
Founding Gift
In the Spring of 2025 an AW community member made a $35,000 donation to AWLS for the purpose of establishing a school foundation.
06/25
Hiring a consultant
In the summer of 2025
district leadership hired Shift Consulting, LLC to begin laying the
groundwork for a new school foundation in Anthony Wayne.
10/25
Public interest meetings
In the fall of 2025 district leadership held a series of public interest meetings with the goal of recruiting an inital Board of Trustees.

Board recruitment
In December of 2025

recruited a Board of eleven trustees.
01/26
First Board meeting
The inaugural Board of Trustees for the Generals for Generations Foundation held its first meeting on January 16, 2026.
08/26
Public awareness
In the fall of 2026, less than one year after the
establishment of its initial Board, the Generals for Generations Foundation began a public awareness campaign in the Anthony Wayne community to
expand interest in the foundation and its objectives.

The Generals for Generations Foundation is directed by a talented and passionate volunteer Board of Trustees. Meet our dedicated members.
Dr. Mike O'Shea
Mike is a pastor, author, and speaker. He and his wife, Kari, grew up in Maumeee but have been AW residents for thirteen years. They currently have 3 children enrolled in AW schools. Mike has served the district in a number of paid and volunteer
capacities including
basketball coach, levy chair, substitute teacher, guest speaker, crisis
response team member, and bus driver.
Angie Barney
Angie and her husband Tim are
lifetime residents of Monclova. Angie & Tim along with their 3 boys are graduates of Anthony Wayne. When Angie is not serving her clients as a Financial Planner at Skylight Financial Group she is busy on their family farm, meat market, with Lucas County 4H, and her grandchildren.
Andy Nowicki
Andrew (AW class of 96') and his wife Christie (AW class of 97') both grew up in the AW community. After living in Florida for a few years, they
returned to the area to raise their three children (Hadryn, Trinity, and Gabi), who are also AW graduates. Andrew manages the North American branch of DEWESoft in Whitehouse. Over the years, he has helped coach baseball and softball, and he now enjoys spending his free time golfing and traveling.
Jen Harder
Jen (Kirby) Harder, a ’96 graduate of Anthony Wayne, has been a resident of Waterville since 1981. Her three children are all AW graduates (Owen Hildebrand ’23, Kate Hildebrand ’25 and Colleen Hildebrand ’26). Professionally, Jen is a Trust Executive for Trust Company Family Offices and has worked with many Foundation and Endowment accounts for the past 25+ years. An
active Anthony Wayne Rotarian, she loves serving our community and is on several boards including the Toledo Zoo and Waterville Community Foundation.
Trey Tollstam
Trey and his wife, Crystal, have three children. Their oldest has graduated from Anthony Wayne Schools, while their two younger children are
currently enrolled in the district. Trey works for Jones Healthcare Group, and Crystal works for the
local YMCA.
The Tollstams have a strong passion for the Anthony Wayne community and believe in giving back wherever they can. Trey and Crystal have been actively involved in supporting AW Schools through a variety of
volunteer roles, while also serving and contributing to the broader
surrounding community. Their
commitment is rooted in helping create opportunities and making a positive impact for students,
families, and the community as a whole.
Jamie Smeltzer
Jamie and her husband Dan moved to AW almost 17 years ago and have 2 children in the district. Jamie is an accountant and real estate investor. She is an active volunteer in the schools, the treasurer for the school’s PTA, and a trustee for the AW Education Foundation. In her free time she enjoys reading, walking with friends, and playing tennis.
Tom Hertzfeld
Thomas and his wife, Caitlin, have been lifelong Anthony Wayne residents. They have three children, one currently enrolled in Anthony Wayne Schools and two who will soon join the district. Thomas is
employed by Hertzfeld Poultry Farms, a
fourth-generation family business that has proudly seen many members of the Hertzfeld family attend and graduate from Anthony Wayne Schools over the years. In addition to his professional role, Thomas has served the district in several different capacities over the years.
Shawnacy Miller
Shawnacy and her husband Trevor have been AW residents for a handful of years. They currently have 3
children in AW schools. Shawnacy is actively involved in fundraising, grant writing, and program
management in multiple non-profit organizations and every school her children have attended.
Dr. Jon Schwanz
Jon and his wife Jill of 44 years have lived in the AW district for 40 of those years. Their 3 sons are all graduates of Anthony Wayne. They are also the proud grandparents of 5.
Jon has served the
community for 40 years as a Chiropractor, business owner, and through his church. He seeks to
continue serving the Anthony Wayne District through the Generals for Generations Foundation.
Lisa Schaller
Lisa has been an AW
resident for 63 years. She graduated from AW in 1981 and 3 of her children are also AW grads. She is
involved with the AW Alumni Association as well as the Anthony Wayne Community Chamber of Commerce. Lisa has taught at BGSU in the Construction Management program for 17 years and spends time connecting with the grade school and high school students in the AW district assisting with STEM and future career choices.
Jason Hood
Jason is a proud 1988
graduate of AW and still lives in the AW community. His wife and 3 sons all graduated from AW as well. He is the President of DMC Technology Group in Toledo. He believes Anthony Wayne Local Schools had a positive
impact on the lives of his family and continues to see the community
improvement centered on AW.
